Untitled, by Alice Wang's

Alice Wang's Untitled exemplifies the artist's interests and explorations into the alchemical transformation of materials. The book, made entirely of silver paper, contains a collection of inverted stills from performances by Olympian synchronized swimmers. Together, the stills create a choreography of bobbing and rhythmic movement that perplexes one's bodily sense of gravity. Featuring text by btr in Chinese (translated into English by Mike Fu), the book is designed to open both left-to-right and right-to-left for readers of either language.

Alice Wang (b. 1983) was born in Xi’an, China. She makes sculptures, prints, videos, drawings, and experimental films. Wang received her BS in Computer Science and International Relations from the University of Toronto, BFA from the California Institute of the Arts, and MFA from New York University. She was a fellow of the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2012, a Villa Aurora fellow in Berlin in 2013, and the recipient of the Project Grant to Visual Artists from the Canada Council for the Arts in 2016. Wang has presented work at ltd los angeles, Human Resources (Los Angeles), LACE (Los Angeles), Immanence (Paris), Chronus Art Center (Shanghai), the Armory Center for the Arts (Pasadena), 80WSE (New York), the Art Gallery of Mississauga (Canada), and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, among others.
